The elbow is a joint formed by the intersection of the humerus, ulna and radius, on which much of the arm's movements depend. It is an area prone to injuries, caused mainly by repetitive activities.

The elbow is one of the joints that is most frequently damaged, and it is common to treat patients with elbow dislocations.
At Elgeadi Traumatology we perform novel surgical techniques such as elbow arthroplasty and arthroscopy, which will help reverse the injury in a minimally invasive way. You can make an appointment at any of the centers in the national territory with which Elgeadi Traumatología collaborates.
Detailed information about the elbow.
It is located on the outside of the elbow. It is considered a diarthrosis joint, since it allows various movements to be performed.
The main movements of the joint are flexion and extension, and different ligaments are involved in both: anterior, posterior, annular and internal lateral.
It is located in the middle part of the arm, specifically on the inner edge of the elbow. The ligaments that surround the ulna and radius are the transverse, anterior and posterior ligaments. As it is a trochlear-type joint, it only allows movements in one plane. It also intervenes in the flexion and extension movements of the elbow.
It is a trochoid joint, so it can perform various movements, specifically pronation and supination. It is made up of the elbow joint capsule and reinforced by the annular ligament.
elbow movement
The elbow joint is made up of bone, cartilage, ligaments and fluid. Pain in the elbow joint can be due to many causes that can cause pain. The most common symptoms are pain, loss of strength and joint stiffness.
Some of the most common elbow diseases are: epicodylitis or tennis elbow, epitrochleitis or golfer's elbow, osteoarthritis of the elbow, olecranon bursitis, gouty elbow and biceps injuries.
The Panner's disease It is a pathology that appears when the cartilage and capitellum are subjected to stress. It is common in growing children and adolescents who play sports that involve fast movements or sudden movements, such as baseball or rhythmic gymnastics.
Elbow arthroscopy is a surgery that is performed using an arthroscope, a device that is introduced through small incisions in the skin, allowing the elbow joint to be viewed on a television screen.
This surgery allows us to directly inspect the cartilage of the elbow bones and their ligaments, as well as the periarticular structures, tendons and nerves of the elbow. The arthroscopic instruments are introduced through the incisions made and allow injuries to be repaired.
It is a non-aggressive technique, used by doctors specializing in elbow arthroscopy. It allows direct visualization of the elbow joint, allowing the treatment and diagnosis of numerous pathologies.
Elbow arthroscopy lasts between 15 and 60 minutes, depending on the complexity of the pathology being treated. It is performed using loco-regional anesthesia of the arm and, generally, you are discharged from the hospital on the day of surgery or the next day.
The fundamental advantage over open surgery is the minimal aggression of the tissues in its approach. In addition, direct vision of the joint guarantees greater precision in the identification of injuries. On the other hand, the incisions are minimal, so there is less risk of infection.
As it is a minimally invasive operation, carried out by a trauma surgeon specializing in elbow, the client's recovery time is shorter and complications are minimal.
This technique is used by Prof. Dr. Elgeadi and his team, considered pioneer traumatologists in elbow operations in Spain.
Pain after elbow arthroscopy is mild, and can be controlled with pain relievers. Furthermore, the patient, if he or she does not need immobilization, usually recovers joint mobility in a short time. In some cases, it may be necessary to carry out rehabilitative treatment sessions with a physiotherapist in a specialized center.
It is very important that the surgery be performed by a traumatologist specializing in elbow arthroscopy with extensive experience, since the elbow is surrounded by nerves, tendons, ligaments and important blood vessels that must be treated appropriately to avoid injuries.
Doctor Ghassan Elgeadi and his team of traumatologists specializing in elbow arthroscopy in Spain are pioneers in this minimally invasive surgery technique. Book your appointment now.
Most medical societies offer complete coverage if such arthroscopy is required.
Elbow arthroplasty is a surgery to repair one or parts of a joint by implanting a prosthesis, which is implemented by the arthroplasty specialist in any of our centers in the national territory.
The arthroplasty traumatologist will make a cut to study the joint. The tissues and damaged parts are removed and a hole is made in the arm bone to insert the artificial implant that will be welded to the bones.
